ECoW Railway – Gloucestershire

The team at Acer recently undertook work in Almondsbury at a site adjacent to a railway line. The purpose of the assessment was to establish the conditions of the site and the associated ecological risks to the proposed works. To search for the presence of any relevant habitats with potential to support any protected or notable species and any evidence of said species, an ecological walkover survey was conducted.

Some of the protected or notable species we search for include:

  • Any nesting birds
  • Roosting, foraging, and commuting bats
  • Dormice
  • Great Crested Newts
  • Badgers
  • Reptiles
  • Other Mammals

No signs of any protected species were found on site during the walkover survey. The site was established to have high potential to support nesting birds and commuting and foraging bats, with the presence of dormice and reptiles unable to be ruled out. Our ecologists determined that it was best to return for a further assessment to examine if the vegetation clearance has impacted any nesting birds, and for a destructive search for dormice, GCN and reptiles to occur.

We have also done ECoW work in London, Bristol, Bath, Cardiff, and Swansea along with other areas in the South of Wales.
