ecology job cardiffWe are always interested to hear from qualified, experienced and highly motivated ecologists who would like to join our team.

We are currently recruiting for the following roles:

As a small consultancy we provide a supportive, friendly and flexible environment where you can make a real difference, grow your skills and be part of a close-knit, dynamic team. Specifically, our roles offer:

  • High Impact – You’ll have a lot of autonomy to organise your diary, workload and priorities with support from the wider team. You will play an essential role in our projects, enabling you to make decisions, mentor others and see the results of your work firsthand;
  • Engaging and varied projects – We work with a range of clients, from individual householders planning their ‘grand design’ to public bodies maintaining social housing and essential infrastructure like schools and hospitals. We believe in a proactive approach to communication and advice so that ecology is built into projects as early as possible, and clients and other stakeholders have clarity on next steps to safeguard wildlife and biodiversity throughout their projects and into the future;
  • Supportive, Collaborative Team –We foster a strong sense of camaraderie, open communication and collaboration to find solutions to any challenging situations that may arise;
  • Relaxed and flexible working environment – There is scope for flexible/remote working, especially for more senior staff who can complete their work autonomously. We are a friendly, relaxed team who get together 1-3 times a week at our Cardiff Bay office. The dress code for office days is informal and there’s usually plenty of dog cuddles to go around. 100% home-working opportunities are also possible for the right candidate if you are not based locally.
  • Streamlined Processes – We keep things simple. This means no bureaucratic hurdles like timesheets or complicated case management systems to navigate, just the tools needed to do our job effectively;
  • Broad Skill Development – You’ll engage in a variety of tasks, with opportunities to share knowledge with others in the team and gain diverse experience, accelerating your skill growth and professional development;
  • Fast-Track Promotions and Growth – Show initiative and leadership, and you’ll have access to rapid growth and advancement opportunities; and
  • A commitment to work/life balance, mental health and wellbeing – we regularly check in with our team about their workload, capacity and wellbeing and encourage everyone to take Time Off In Lieu (TOIL) for any out-of-hours work to avoid stress and burnout especially during the busy season.

At Acer Ecology, we recognise the importance of attracting and keeping the best people so we offer all of our staff a highly desirable package of benefits which includes:

  • Holiday accrual scheme for employees of more than 3, 5 and 10 years’ service Where possible, we are also open to considering requests for unpaid leave on a case-by-case basis so that staff can take longer breaks at off-peak times of year;
  • Minimal dusk surveys/anti-social work hours for Consultant, Senior and Principal Ecologists or those involved in protected species licensing, BNG or botanical work;
  • Company pension scheme
  • Enhanced Maternity/paternity leave and sick pay after 2+ years of service;
  • Instant reimbursement for large expense sums, and monthly payment of mileage and other expenses claims;
  • Work events including a Christmas meal and pre- and post-season socials;
  • TOIL for training and extra-curricular activities such as attending Glamorgan, Monmouthshire or Somerset Rare Plant group events, local bat, amphibian or dormouse events or other wildlife-related events;
  • Use of GROW model coaching and appraisals to help you achieve work-related goals like report-writing skills, botanical competency or achieving protected species licences;

We pledge to help you to develop the right skills, knowledge and attributes you need to progress. As such, we have developed a career progression framework that openly:
    • defines the roles across our company;
    • shows which roles you can work towards; and
