Acer Ecology will be running a range distance-learning wildlife courses in 2021. The Ecology Training Courses 2021 are aimed at anyone with an interest in local wildlife but could also be useful for undergraduates and postgraduates students or for anybody currently or aspiring to work in ecological consultancy or for environmental organisations.
Self -Study Phase 1 Habitat Survey Course
This self-study course will introduce participants to the Phase 1 methodology to classify habitats. The course van be started at any time.
The course will cost £50.00 inclusive of VAT.
Phase 1 Introductory Course – 21st July 2021
This course will run from approximately 10;00am until 16:00 pm and will be held completely in the field in Sully, Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales. During the day we be walking around 8-9km and traverse across to Sully Island, and so a reasonable level of fitness is required, as well as comfortabailty of waliking The course will cost £50.00 inclusive of VAT. Intrductory videos and other information will be provided in advance of the course to support the fieldwork and provide an introduction to the phase 1 technique and habitats. Social distance will be employed during the course.
Phase 1 Habitat Survey Course with Zoom Sessions on 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd September 2021
We will be re-running our ever popular Phase 1 Habitat Survey course. This will introduce participants to the Phase 1 methodology to classify habitats. In 2021 this course will be run as a combination of the online and self-study sessions. The zoom sessions will take place on the evenings of 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th April.
The course will cost £50.00 inclusive of VAT.
Introduction to QGIS – with Zoom Sessions on 14th and 21st September 2021
This course provides an introduction to the use of QGIS for ecologists. The course is suitable for beginners to GIS, those looking to refresh their skills or those looking to migrate to using QGIS software. The course costs £50.00 inclusive of VAT and will run from 10am until 12pm on both days.
An Introduction to Bat Explorer – with Zoom Session on 28th September 2021
This course, aimed at beginners and intermediate users, will give participants the knowledge and skills to use the BatExplorer software to analyse recordings. The course costs £40.00 inclusive of VAT and will run from 10am until 1pm.
