Earned Recognition (ER) is a strategy collaboratively developed by the Bat Conservation Trust, Natural England (NE), and the Chartered Institute for Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM). The primary objective of Earned Recognition is to:
1 – Streamline the licensing process;
2 – Enhance and uphold professional standards in bat mitigation efforts; and
3 – Improve the outcome for bats.
Bat Earned Recognition underwent two trial phases: the Pilot (2021/2022) and Beta (2023). During these phases, 80 consultants achieved accreditation, and additional candidates are in the process of completing their assessments as the second phase concludes. As of now, these accredited consultants have collectively submitted more than 530 Site Registrations.
After successful trial phases showcasing its benefits, Bat Earned Recognition has now become a standard practice endorsed by Natural England. This means that the Site Registration process will persist, accommodating an increasing number of consultants. Moreover, a new round of Accreditation is scheduled for 2023. Insights gathered from the Beta phase will inform enhancements to the process, ensuring a more efficient and streamlined approach moving forward.
Natural England will share more details about the next round of accreditation in the coming months.
