Reptile Survey Weston-super-Mare

Acer Ecology has undertaken surveys in Weston-super-Mare. Our ecologists also serve the surrounding areas of Somerset including Taunton, Bridgwater, Axbridge, and Somerton, as well as the surrounding counties of Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, and Devon.

Do you require a reptile survey?

In the UK, there are four widespread species of reptile – grass snake, slow-worm, adder, and common lizard. These species are given ‘partial protection’ under UK law, meaning that it is an offence to deliberately kill or injure an individual animal, although their habitat is not specifically protected. These species are often found on development sites and developers are often obliged to replace any reptile habitat that is lost as a result of the development.

If the two scarcer species of British reptile (the smooth snake and the sand lizard) are found on a development site, a Protected Species Licence will be required. However, these are only rarely found on development sites.

Our ecologists have extensive experience in surveying and designing mitigation for reptiles and can advise you on survey methodology, legal protection, mitigation options and the timing of development works.
