Badger survey Neath Port Talbot

Acer Ecology is an ecological consultancy based in Cardiff and work across Wales and the UK. We are able to undertake surveys across Neath Port Talbot, including Port Talbot, Neath, Briton Ferry, Pontardawe, Ystalyfera, Severn Sisters and Margam. We also have the capacity to take on projects in the surrounding counties of Carmarthenshire, Swansea, Bridgend, south and mid-Powys and Rhondda Cynon Taff.

Badgers can be found in many different types of habitats, for example, open fields, hedgerows, woods, copses, and even quarries, moorland and urban gardens. Badgers are often found on developments.

Under the Protection of Badgers Act 1992, all badgers and their setts are protected. This means that it is illegal to kill or injure them, or to interfere with a sett.

If badgers will be affected by a development, or works are planned to occur in close proximity to an active set, you will need a Protected Species Licence before works can commence.

Our ecologists are experienced at surveying for badgers, bait marking and territory analysis. We can also perform licensed exclusions, supervision of sett closures and their destruction, and the design of artificial setts, badger fencing, and tunnels.

Surveys can be undertaken throughout the year. However, surveys are most effective between October and April inclusive, when the vegetation cover is reduced, setts are readily visible, and badgers are highly active.
