A farmhouse supporting a maternity roost of brown long-eared bats, soprano and common pipistrelle bats was proposed for demolition as part of plans to extend the quarry. A purpose-built bat house was created in advance of the demolition of the farmhouse.
A destructive search of the original buildings was carried out prior to demolition by a licensed bat ecologist, via a ‘soft strip’ of potential roost sites such as behind soffits, ridge tiles, areas of broken or slipped tiling, and under lead flashing.
All bats and their roosts are protected in the UK under the Wildlife and Countryside Act and the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2017. As such, you may be required to undertake a bat survey by your local planning authority.
Our ecologists are experienced in bat survey, European Protected Species licensing, and mitigation design and implementation.
Our bat survey specialists have undertaken numerous surveys of bats in the Vale of Glamorgan including sites in St Hilary, Ystradowen, Bonvilston and Southerndown.
