Five Key Changes to new Planning Policy Wales (Edition 8, January 2016)

Planning Policy Wales (Edition 8, January 2016) (PPW) has recently been revised. There are five key changes which have been made.

Chapter 2: Local Development Plans has been incorporated into Edition 8 of Planning Policy Wales. Chapter 2was revised and published on 25 September 2015 following the refinement of the Local Development Plan (LDP) process.

Chapter 4: Planning for Sustainability has been updated to take into account the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015. The Chapter has also been updated to reflect the Welsh language provisions of the Planning (Wales) Act 2015. This strengthens the consideration of the Welsh language in the planning system.

Chapter 5: Conserving and Improving Natural Heritage and the Coast: has been updated to include reference to the development of the Welsh Government’s Welsh National Marine Plan.

The section on Renewable and Low Carbon Energy of Chapter 12: Infrastructure and Services have been updated to include reference to non-domestic small scale microgeneration equipment.

Chapter 14: Minerals has been amended to incorporate planning policies for minerals development as previously set out in Minerals Planning Policy Wales (2001). No changes have been made to existing policy as part of this integration process. Minerals Planning Policy Wales (2001) has subsequently been cancelled.

Full details of the new Planning Policy Wales document is available on the Welsh Government’s website.
