We are specialists in South Wales habitat surveys. We have recently been commissioned to undertake habitat surveys of sites in Blaenau Gwent, Brecon Beacons, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Carmarthen, Ceredigion, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Neath Port Talbot, Newport, Pembrokeshire, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taff, Swansea, Torfaen, Vale of Glamorgan; and further afield including sites in Herefordshire, the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Shropshire.
Phase 1 Habitat Surveys
The survey identifies habitats and features on the site that may constrain development and evaluates the potential of these habitats to support protected species. If the site is assessed as having low wildlife interest, then no further survey may be needed. If necessary, clients are advised to undertake more detailed specialist studies. A data trawl is usually undertaken in conjunction with the survey, whereby information about the site and its context are obtained from organisations such as Local Biodiversity Records Centres. This includes information on protected and Biodiversity Action Plan priority species and the presence of nearby statutory protected areas.
Specialist Vegetation Surveys
Where a more detailed survey is required, a specialist vegetation survey may be undertaken. Accurate descriptions of the vegetation and flora of a site are fundamental to the evaluation of its significance in relation to planning applications or site management. Our expert team will ensure that botanical survey and reporting is undertaken to the highest standards.
