great crested newt survey glamorgan

Acer Ecology was commissioned to prepare a great crested newt mitigation strategy for a site in Dinas Powys, in the Vale of Glamorgan, near Cardiff. We produced a strategy to ensure that the works were undertaken sensitively to minimise disturbance to great crested newt.

Our licensed great crested newt specialists are experienced in surveying, European Protected Species licensing and mitigation design and implementation. Acer Ecology is able to take on projects throughout Glamorgan and the entire South Wales region.

Great crested newts are fully protected under the UK and European law and are frequently encountered on development sites. It is an offence to kill, capture, disturb them, or to damage / destroy their ponds. This protection extends to the habitats which support great crested newt and it is generally assumed that the species might be present in terrestrial habitats up to 500m of a breeding pond, depending on habitat quality, connectivity, and population size.
