We recently carried out a bat survey in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.
The large residential dwelling was proposed for conversion and refurbishment. It was well connected to moderate quality bat foraging and commuting habitat and contained evidence of roosting bats in the loft void. Further surveys confirmed that the building was being used by low numbers of Myotis species. We were then able to work alongside our client’s architect to ensure that appropriate avoidance and mitigation measures were incorporated into the development to ensure that bats were not adversely affected by the works. We strive to provide pragmatic, cost-effective and timely solutions to ecological considerations on site, that help our client’s projects progress smoothly through the planning process.
We are an experienced and expanding ecological consultancy specialising in bat surveys. We are well placed to undertake bat surveys in Weston-super-Mare, as well as the wider county of Somerset, including Clevedon, Portishead, Burnham-on-Sea, Bridgwater, Brean, Nailsea, Chew Magna, Winscombe, Wedmore, Bristol, Yatton and the Mendips.
Our fully licensed ecologists are experienced in bat survey, European Protected Species licensing, and mitigation design and implementation. We are able to provide a competitive quote to potential clients on a case by case basis.
Bats and their roosts are fully protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act and the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2017. Therefore, you may be asked to undertake a bat survey. The objective of a bat survey is to:
- Establish the presence / likely absence of the bat roosts within trees and buildings;
- Identify the activity of bats across the site and key commuting and foraging routes; and
- Recommend ecological mitigation and enhancement where required.
