Bat surveys identified common pipistrelle bats roosting in cavities above one of the church windows proposed for replacement at a chapel in Morriston, Swansea.
We supervised the replacement of the windows ensuring that the works were undertaken without harming bats. The cavities were maintained after completion of the works so that bats could continue roosting above the window frames.
Have you been advised to do a bat survey by your local planning authority?
Under the Wildlife and Countryside Act and the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2017, all bats and their roosts are fully protected. Identifying ecological constraints early in the planning process is both time-saving and cost-effective.
Our staff at Acer Ecology are fully licensed and specialise in undertaking bat surveys.
Bat surveys aim to establish the presence/likely absence of bats within trees and buildings and identify bat activity within the site (including key commuting and foraging routes). Using this information, we work closely with our clients to put together a plan for appropriate ecological mitigation and enhancement where it is required.
