bat survey somerset

We are experienced ecological consultancy, primarily involved in undertaking bat surveys.

If you require a bat survey we can help you, and would be more than happy to answer any questions you have to help guide you through the planning process and help ensure that your development will proceed without any problems.

Acer Ecology recently carried out a bat survey at a complex of barns in South Somerset, near Templecombe. Our fully licensed ecologists undertook a combination of dusk emergence, dawn re-entry and transect surveys across the site. A low number of bats were recorded using the buildings during the survey, and the project progressed smoothly through the planning process.

Bats and their roosts are fully protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act and the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2017. Our ecologists are experienced in bat surveying, European Protected Species licensing, mitigation design and implementation, and supervision of works. The objective of a bat survey is to:

  • Establish the presence / likely absence of the bat roosts within trees and buildings;
  • Identify the activity of bats across the site and key commuting and foraging routes; and
  • Recommend ecological mitigation and enhancement where required.

We’re able to carry out surveys throughout Somerset, such as the Mendips, Quantocks, Somerset Levels, Langport, Minehead, Taunton, Teovil, Bridgwater, Glastonbury, Frome, Wells and Templecombe.
