Bat Survey Malvern

We recently surveyed for bats at an underground structure near the Malvern Hills.

The structure was well connected to high quality bat foraging and commuting habitat by a network of linear features. A low number of bats were recorded roosting within the structure, and further activity surveys were therefore recommended in order to identify the species of bat, the number of individuals present, the status of the roost, and the access points. Determining these characteristics enables us to work alongside our clients efficiently to ensure that their project can progress smoothly through the planning process, without adversely affecting bats or their roosts.

Bats and their roosts are fully protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act and the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2017.

We are an experienced and expanding ecological consultancy, specialising in bat surveys. We are therefore well placed to undertake bat surveys in Malvern and across the wider areas of Worcestershire and Herefordshire, including Worcester, Ledbury, Colwall, Welland, Bromyard, Newland, Powick, Much Marcle, Eastnor and Cradley. Our fully licensed ecologists are experienced in bat surveys, European Protected Species licensing, and mitigation design and implementation. We are able to provide a competitive quote to potential clients on a case by case basis. If part of your planning application requires a bat survey then we can help ensure that your development passes smoothly through this process.

The objective of a bat survey is to:

  • Establish the presence/ likely absence of the bat roosts within trees and buildings;
  • Identify the activity of bats across the site and key commuting and foraging routes; and
  • Recommend ecological mitigation and enhancement where required.
