Acer Ecology was commissioned to prepare a reptile mitigation strategy for a land in Neath Port Talbot, South Wales. The land was proposed for the installation of three picnic tables, a feature stone seat and a substrate of compacted stone dust.
In order to address the planning condition, Acer Ecology produced a strategy giving recommendations to enhance the area for reptiles. A reptile hibernaculum was installed on the site to provide additional habitat suitable for hibernation.
British Reptiles and Planning Applications
There are four widespread species of British reptile, comprising grass snake, slow-worm, adder, and common lizard, and these are given so-called ‘partial protection’ under UK law – it is an offence to deliberately kill or injure them. All of them are commonly encountered on development sites.
Our reptile specialists are experienced in surveying for reptiles, mitigation design, and on-site supervision. Both reptile surveys and mitigation are constrained to occur between April and September.
Acer Ecology is able to undertake projects across Neath Port Talbot, the South Wales region and the border counties of England.
