Bats and their roosts are fully protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act and the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2017.
Local authorities sometimes ask for a bat survey to be undertaken due to this legislation. Bat surveys aim to:
- Establish the presence / likely absence of bat roosts within buildings and trees; and
- Identify the activity of bats across the site plus key commuting and foraging routes.
