Acer Ecology has been involved in several projects across South and West Wales surveying our waterways for the presence of otters. We have surveyed sites in Cardiff, Swansea, Bridgend, Newport, and Carmarthen, searching for tracks, holts, and spraints.
Otters and their habitats are fully protected under the UK and European law.
This means they cannot lawfully be killed, kept or sold (alive or dead), nor can their holts be damaged or obstructed, nor can otters themselves be disturbed in its resting place (holts, couches etc.) except with a special licence.
Our ecologists have designed successful mitigation strategies for developments found to be in close proximity to otter habitat allowing developments to go ahead with minimal disruption. We can also help you with licensing.
