At Acer Ecology, our licensed ecologists have carried out extended Phase 1 habitat surveys (Preliminary Ecological Appraisals) in Abergavenny and the nearby area.
An Extended Phase 1 Habitat survey can also be called:
Phase 1 survey;
Preliminary Ecological Appraisal(s);
Ecological Site Appraisal;
Ecological Site Assessment;
Ecological Site Walkover Survey;
Ecological Constraints Survey;
Ecological Scoping Survey; or
a Baseline Ecological Survey.
What does an Extended Phase 1 Habitat Survey include?
The survey identifies habitats and features on a site that may constrain development and evaluates the potential of these habitats to support protected species, such as bats, reptiles, badgers, otters, etc. If the site is assessed as having a low wildlife interest, no further surveys may be needed. If necessary, clients are then advised to undertake more detailed specialist studies.
A data trawl is usually undertaken in conjunction with the survey. Local Biodiversity Record Centres, and other such organisations, provide us with information regarding protected and Biodiversity Action Plan priority species and the presence of nearby statutory protected areas.
