Acer Ecology’s fully licensed ecologists have carried out numerous bat surveys across Coleford and the surrounding areas.
Acer Ecology is an ecological consultancy specialising in undertaking bat surveys. Our ecologists are experienced in bat survey, European Protected Species licensing, mitigation design and implementation, and supervision of works. We regularly undertake bat surveys in the Mendip District and Somerset, including Batcombe, Frome, Glastonbury, Wookey Hole, Shepton Mallet, Wells, Pilton, Paulton, West Bradbury, and Cranmore.
Bats and their roosts are fully protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act and the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2017.
Due to this legislation, local planning authorities often ask for a bat survey to be undertaken if they believe that proposed works may affect bats or their roosts. The objective of a bat survey is to:
- Establish the presence / likely absence of the bat roosts within trees and buildings;
- Identify the activity of bats across the site and key commuting and foraging routes; and
- Recommend ecological mitigation and enhancement where required.
Identifying ecological constraints early in the planning process has proven to be both cost-effective and time-saving in the long run.
