We recently carried out a bat survey of a property that was proposed for redevelopment within Bristol. Identifying the presence of a bat roost at an early stage in the planning process is crucial in order to avoid potentially costly and timely delays further down the line. We were able to work alongside our client to ensure that their project progressed smoothly and legally, in a manner that maintained the favourable conservation status of the bat roost.
Bats and their roosts are fully protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act and the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2017.
Our fully licensed ecologists are experienced in bat survey, European Protected Species licensing, and mitigation design and implementation. If, as part of a planning application, you require a bat survey we can help ensure that your development proceeds smoothly through the planning process. We are able to provide a competitive quote to potential clients on a case by case basis.
The objective of a bat survey is to:
- Establish the presence/ likely absence of the bat roosts within trees and buildings;
- Identify the activity of bats across the site and key commuting and foraging routes; and
- Recommend ecological mitigation and enhancement where required.
We regularly undertake bat surveys across Bristol, including Ashley, Bishopston, Cabot, Clifton, Clifton East, Cotham, Easton, Lawrence Hill and Redland, Brislington East, Brislington West, Eastville, Frome Vale, Hillfields, St George East, St George West, and Stockwood, Bedminster, Bishopsworth, Filwood, Hartcliffe, Hengrove, Knowle, Southville, Whitchurch Park and Windmill Hill, Avonmouth, Henbury, Henleaze, Horfield, Kingsweston, Lockleaze, Southmead, Stoke Bishop, and Westbury-on-Trym.
We are also well placed to serve the surrounding counties of Somerset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, and Monmouthshire.
