Ecology Training Courses 2022

Starting in the spring, Acer Ecology will be running a whole range of wildlife courses online. The Ecology Training Courses 2022 are aimed at anyone with an interest in local wildlife but could also be useful for undergraduates and postgraduates students or for anybody currently or intending to work in ecological consultancy or for environmental organisations. Whether you’re interested in identifying the wild plants that you encounter during walks in the countryside, the newts in your local pond or the birds visiting the feeder, our ecology training courses will have something for you.

BatExplorer Training Course – 26th April 2022 (Zoom Course)

This course, aimed at beginners and intermediate users, will give participants the knowledge and skills to use the BatExplorer and Kaleidoscope software to analyse recordings. This course costs £40.00 inclusive of VAT and will run from 10.00am until 1.00pm.


Introduction to Protected Species Course 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th April 2022

This one-day protected species course aims to introduce you to the protected species that are encountered in Wales. It will cover the ecology of the animals, the legislation associated with protected species and the recommended survey techniques for each species. This course will involve both an indoor and outdoor session.


Phase 1 Habitat Survey Course | Acer Ecology March 2022

We will be re-running our ever popular Phase 1 Habitat Survey course. This will introduce participants to the Phase 1 methodology to classify habitats. There will be both indoor and outdoor sessions where we will undertake a Phase 1 habitat survey. The course will run on the 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd of March and costs £50.00 inclusive of VAT.

Winter Tree Identification – 5th February 2020

This one-day winter tree identification course aims to introduce you to the key characters used in the identification of deciduous trees and shrubs. Emphasis will be placed on key characters to distinguish each species from similar looking trees. The course is aimed at the keen beginner and skills enhancer alike and provides an introduction to winter tree identification. The course will involve both indoor and outdoor sessions. The course will run from 10.00 am until 3.00 pm and will cost £30.00 per person, inclusive of VAT.


Introduction to QGIS – 12th February 2020

QGIS Training Course

This popular one day course provides an introduction to the use of QGIS. The course is suitable for beginners to GIS, those looking to refresh their skills or those looking to migrate to using QGIS software. The course costs £100.00 inclusive of VAT and will run from 10.00 am until 4.00 pm.
