A PENARTH wildlife consultancy is encouraging local residents to sign up for a range of wildlife courses launching this summer.

Acer Ecology, based at Wordsworth Avenue, is launching the wildlife courses at Wenvoe Community Centre and Bute Park from April onwards.

Budding naturalists will be given the chance to learn about bird and plant identification, as well as grass, moss and fern identification.

Paul Hudson, who launched the company two years ago, said that the one-day training courses were suitable for anyone interested in ecology.

“This is the first year we have started to run wildlife courses,” he said.

“We are just looking to teach recent graduates and local naturalists about wildlife.”

Courses cost £60 per person, with discounts to £40 to full-time students, the unemployed and pensioners.

All the courses, apart from the bird identification course that will be held at Bute Park, will be held at Wenvoe Community Centre.

Paul, principal ecologist and director of the company, added: “Whether you’re interested in identifying the wild plants in your garden, the newts on your local pond or the birds visiting the feeder, the Acer Ecology courses will have something for you.”
