Bat Mitigation – 16th July 2018
This course is aimed at anybody currently or intending to work in ecological consultancy or undertake voluntary roost visits providing bat mitigation advice to developers or householders. The course will include information about different types of mitigation, mitigation for roost loss including different roost types (e.g. maternity, hibernation, night roosts etc), mitigating for loss of habitat, species-specific mitigation (e.g. for horseshoes, long-eared bats, pipistrelles etc.), lighting considerations, roof membranes and examples of successful and unsuccessful approaches.
The course will take place in our office in Cardiff Bay.
18.00–18.30 British bat species – roosting behaviour in relation to mitigation
18:30–19:00 Interpreting survey results – to design the bat mitigation plan and assess the need for a licence
19:00–19:30 Building and tree mitigation: re-roofing; extensions; barn conversions; loft conversions and demolitions. Tree surgery works and felling of tree.
19:30–20:00 Post project monitoring – evaluating the success of the bat mitigation
20:00-21:00 Scenario based examples covering a range of different species and roost types
- The course costs £40 per person inclusive of VAT.
- All attendees will be issued with a certificate of attendance.
- The course will run from 18:00am to 21:00pm
- The course will be held at Acer Ecology’s office in Cardiff Bay.
